TAMING OF THE SHREW

It begins with a practical joke on a drunken beggar named Sly, by a Lord in the community, trying to convince Sly he is really a Lord. “Actors” are brought in to entertain and their play becomes the main story of Taming of the Shrew. Several men are courting Baptista’s youngest daughter, Bianca, drawn by her beauty and sweet spirit, but she cannot marry until her older sister has been wed. This poses to be a problem because of her older sister’s vicious and ill-tempered personality. Katherina, the Shrew, can only be tamed by an equally strong persona, Petruchio, who is determined to wed her for her dowery.
