Duncan Little Theater will be providing a great weekend of entertainment on Cinco De Mayo weekend, May 6th and 7th, at the Gazebo at Fuqua Park.

Beginning at 6:30, we will have a food truck and snow cone truck!

At 7:00 PM, opening the festivities will be Featured Vocalist, Anastacia Prucha, singing a beautiful Italian song to set the mood for our Shakespeare plays.

Following Anastacia, we have our DLT young actors performing an original “Wee Scarlet Caped Maiden and the Menacing Wolf.”

To finish the night, at 7:30 PM, we have the hilarious play, “Taming of the Shrew”. All ages will have a wonderful time. These shows are directed by Lana Sleeper with assistance from Beth Ann Hough and Derrick Miller.

This performance is free to the public, but we are accepting donations. So bring your lawn chairs and blankets, and prepare to relax and enjoy!

Taming of the Shrew is a play within a play by Shakespeare. It begins with a practical joke on a drunken beggar named Sly, by a Lord in the community, trying to convince Sly he is really a Lord. “Actors” are brought in to entertain and their play becomes the main story of Taming of the Shrew. Several men are courting Baptista’s youngest daughter, Bianca, drawn by her beauty and sweet spirit, but she cannot marry until her older sister has been wed. This poses to be a problem because of her older sister’s vicious and ill-tempered personality. Katherina, the Shrew, can only be tamed by an equally strong persona, Petruchio, who is determined to wed her for her dowery. Hilarious confusion and manipulation pursue by Bianca’s’ suitors and servants to accomplish the goal. This fast-paced comedy will be enjoyed by all!
